The new stage of the "El Teniente" mine, called LEVEL-5, focuses on identifying new mineral reserves for the productive sectors. The Network Operation Center's main function is to generate a new telecommunications infrastructure vision for personnel access and mineral exploration complete management, extraction, and supply channel.
Pre-connected and multi-point MPO NEXCONEC fiber optic solutions implementation sets the stage for future connection to the Deep Level, located 400 meters below, improving the potential for increasing the Colón concentrator plant capacity.
The El Teniente mine is the National Copper Corporation (Codelco) structural project developed in the 1920s. El Teniente is the largest underground copper deposit in the world; it is located in the municipality of Machalí, 50 kilometers from Rancagua. Exploration began in 1905 and includes more than 4,500 underground tunnels kilometers.
Its name comes from Francisco Gutiérrez de Caviedes de la Torre, a former lieutenant in the Spanish army. Other projects developed within the El Teniente mine included the Diamante, Andesita, Andes Norte, and Recursos Norte stages.
